Black Quartz Worktops
Black Quartz Worktops
A black quartz worktop is one of the boldest surfaces you can bring into a kitchen. Deep, uniform and effortlessly modern, black quartz pairs with almost any cabinet colour and holds its look for decades with very little fuss. Unlike natural stone, quartz is engineered, so each black quartz kitchen worktop offers a consistent colour and finish from one end of the run to the other, whether you choose a near-solid black or a black flecked with white or gold.
Why Choose Black Quartz Worktops?
Black quartz is a popular choice for homeowners who want a worktop with presence and next to no upkeep. Because quartz is engineered rather than quarried, it is non-porous, so a black quartz worktop never needs sealing and shrugs off the wine, oil and coffee that would mark a more absorbent surface. It gives a kitchen the same depth and quality as black granite, but with a more uniform, predictable finish. Black quartz kitchen worktops suit almost any scheme: they sharpen a white or cream kitchen through contrast, and they add richness to wood, navy or sage units. If you would prefer a lighter surface, our white and grey quartz worktops offer the same easy-care finish in paler tones.

WHAT IS QUARTZ?
Quartz worktops are an engineered stone, made from roughly 90% ground natural quartz, one of the hardest minerals on Earth, bound together with a small amount of resin and pigment. That mix is what gives quartz both its strength and its consistency: the natural crystal supplies the hardness, while the resin makes the surface non-porous and the pigment sets the colour.
Â
The engineering process is also why black quartz looks so even. Where natural stone carries the pattern of the single slab it was cut from, quartz is manufactured to a set recipe, so a black quartz worktop keeps the same tone and finish across the whole kitchen. Manufacturers such as Caesarstone, Silestone and Compac produce blacks that range from near-solid to flecked and finely veined.
Â
Being non-porous, quartz does not need sealing and resists staining and bacteria, which makes it one of the lowest-maintenance surfaces available. The one thing to keep in mind is heat: the natural quartz is extremely heat resistant, but the resin that binds it is not, so a very hot pan placed straight onto the surface can mark it. Use a trivet or a heat pad and a black quartz worktop will keep its finish for decades.

Why Choose Quartz?
Features of Black Quartz Worktops
Hard-Wearing and Low Maintenance
Quartz is one of the hardest worktop materials available, and because it is non-porous it never needs sealing. A black quartz worktop wipes clean with warm soapy water, resists scratches and everyday wear, and won’t absorb spills or harbour bacteria. For a busy kitchen, it is about as low-maintenance as a worktop gets.
A Choice of Finishes
Black quartz is most often supplied in a polished finish, which gives a deep, reflective surface with real richness. Some ranges also offer honed or matte blacks, which are softer and less mirror-like underhand. The finish changes how the worktop looks and feels, and we’ll talk you through which suits how you use your kitchen.
Bold, Modern and Consistent
The great strength of black quartz is consistency. Because it is engineered, the colour and pattern run evenly across every slab, so your worktop, island and upstands all match. Whether you choose a solid jet black or a black scattered with white or gold flecks, you know exactly how the finished kitchen will look.
More than lighter quartz, yes, particularly a solid black in a polished finish, which shows fingerprints, water spots and dust much as a black granite would. It is the one trade-off of the look, and it is easily managed with a quick wipe and buff. If you would rather not think about it, a flecked black quartz such as Vanilla Noir hides marks far better than a near-solid black, which is worth considering before you choose.
No. Unlike natural granite, quartz is non-porous, so a black quartz worktop never needs sealing. A wipe with warm soapy water is all the routine it needs.
Decades. Quartz is one of the hardest worktop materials available, and a properly fitted black quartz worktop will comfortably outlast most other elements of your kitchen with almost no maintenance.
Quartz resists everyday warmth well, but it is not as heat-proof as granite. The resin that binds the stone can be marked or discoloured by a very hot pan, so we always recommend using a trivet or heat pad rather than placing hot cookware straight onto the surface.
Price depends on the range you choose, the size of your kitchen and the edge and finish details. Black quartz spans everything from accessible everyday blacks to premium branded slabs from the likes of Caesarstone and Silestone. The best way to get an accurate figure is to send us your rough measurements for a no-obligation quote.
Black quartz ranges from near-solid jet blacks, through blacks flecked with white or gold, to darker veined and terrazzo styles, usually in a polished finish with some honed options.
