A new kitchen isn’t exactly a regular experience; did you ever hear of someone treating themselves to a new kitchen twice a year? Nope, in fact, the average life of a kitchen is over a decade, so once you’ve committed to a new one, you know that it will be with you for a while.
With this in mind, it’s understandable that people often take their time over choosing a new kitchen. They aren’t something that you can just try on to get a feel for the fit. Far too many of us rush in and end up with a kitchen that we loved at first but which was really just a flash in the pan. (Is that a pun? Sorry!)
Thankfully though, granite worktops Cheshire, Granite House have been part of some incredible kitchen designs over the years, so we know a thing or two about what makes a good one.
They say that the kitchen is the heart of a home, but believe us, that’s no reason to go painting it blood red! Colour is one of the most important choices you will make in your kitchen. Bright and vibrant colours such as citrus might feel like a good idea at the time but is that really what you want for the next decade?
Your best bet is to go with neutral colours. Remember that your kitchen décor will be changed far less often than the rest of the house. Using neutral tones such as cream and especially white means that no matter what changes you make to the rest of the house, your kitchen will always fit in.
When designing your kitchen, your appliances are going to be a major consideration and you will want to make sure that they are not only up to scratch but also that they fit in with the overall design.
First we’ll deal with quality and we really only have one thing to say on them; ‘buy cheap appliances and you will generally get what you pay for’. Choosing quality instead will ensure that you end up with appliances that stand the test of time.
The second consideration with appliances is how they will fit and fit in. Appliances that are coloured to go with your design are a great idea and you can generally get appliances in a range of colours. In terms of size and placement you will want to make sure that all of your appliances fit perfectly. Built in appliances are a great idea, but make sure that the appliances are not a custom model as they can be hard to replace.
Now that we’ve covered these two first and incredibly important points, we are calling it a day for now. Keep your eyes peeled for part two of this blog to make sure that you know all of the important factors in creating a kitchen that will last for years to come.
